Energy and Metabolism, Nutrition, and the Digestive System (Synopsis) Essay
Energy and Metabolism, Nutrition, and the Digestive System (Synopsis) - Essay Example These compounds are further subdivided into many classes such as Carbohydrates into monosaccharides and polysaccharides, Proteins into amino acids and lipids into triglycerides and fatty acids (Saturated and Unsaturated). All these compounds which form the basic requirements of our body and food contribute in the process of formation of ATP, the basic energy providing compound of our body. These biochemical compounds when enter our digestive system are further broken down into their very basic compound or particle which then undergoes the process of metabolism (either anabolism or catabolism) to form ATP. Our digestive system consists of oral cavity where food is chewed, esophagus for the transfer of chewed food, stomach for the breaking down and absorption of some of the food specially Vitamin B12 and proteins and intestines (small and large) for the further absorption and digestion of remaining undigested food and removal of left over undigested food through the anal canal. All the se systems form the basis of bodyââ¬â¢s energy providing system along with liver where most of the absorbed compounds are taken and there they undergo the process of metabolism to form the basic energy providing compound of the body. An abnormality in any of them e.g. hepatitis, peptic ulcers could lead to less nutrition supplied to the body ( malnutrition) and even

Retaining and Attracting Staff in Organisation Research Proposal
Retaining and Attracting Staff in Organisation - Research Proposal Example Key lessons and findings would be summarised and compiled to provide a useful reference that would be of benefit for any company of any size and in any part of the world in the task of facing this global challenge. First, the characteristic of the workplace is constantly changing because of the increasing globalisation of firms, which has affected firms in several ways such as raising the level of competition, demanding better performance and productivity from employees, and requiring higher standards of innovativeness, work values, skills and attitudes. This increased competition amongst firms has been extended from the marketplace for products and services and into the market for talented employees who need to be attracted and retained with the use of increasingly innovative and effective strategies. Second, the characteristics of the workforce -current, long-term, and incoming - are changing due to several factors, such as demographics, academic and professional qualifications, and job-related expectations. As companies compete and grow, they are increasing the demand for workers in a world where the population of talented workers is not growing as fast as the rise in demand. To take an example, companies need to attract and retain the highly educated Generation Y and the highly mobile Generation X (post-baby boom) and aging baby boomers. The research study will consider these two issues using updated findings based on primary and secondary research data as explained in the next section. The basic foundational materials for the study will be four of the latest research sources on the topic of attraction and retention of staff in organisations. The first is the latest Human Resources Salary Survey 2006/2007 conducted by the Tokyo (Japan)-based global recruitment and consulting agency Michael Page International (Leithead 2007) based on their experiences in global hiring and retention with a

Close reference Essay Example for Free
Close reference Essay Williams was told by his psychiatrist that his plays are full of hate, anger and envy. With close reference to the stageing and set, state whether you agree witht the description of scene 3. The Glass Menagerie contains much desperation, ahte and anger. Much of this is evident within scene 3. Williams explores the false illusions and unrealistic dreams of each of the characters. Williams manages to portray the themes of hate, anger, and envy through his careful use of lighting, music and position of the characters. Williams also portrays desperations within this scence which is showin through the character Amanda at the very start of the scene. The second piece of dialogue in scene 3 is from Amanda. We already know that Amanda still sees herself as living in the thirties, young and carefree. However here we see a different side to Amanda, desperations. The screen image for this piece of dialogue is Glamour magasine cover. This immediately strikes us as ironic because its an illusion. Amandas life is neither glamarous, or along the lines of a magsine lifestyle. It is my opinion that Williams has deliberately done this to emphasize just how much Amanda lives in an illusional dream world. However in this passage we also see Amandas desperate side. Being as the play is set in a time when America s recovering from the great depression and during the second world war, we know that money is tight. In this passage we can see Amanda despreately trying to sell magasine subscription to one of her friends. Williams presets Amandas desperation, but also her friendly side. She is really in need of the money from the magasine subscription, hence her willingness to get the lady on the other end of the phone to buy it, Oh honey, its something that you cant miss! Williams has shown to us that although half the time Amanda lives in her own little world, she also knows that it is no longer the thirties and she needs to help support her family. Scene 3 contains alot of hate and envy as well as other emotions. It is during this scene that Tom and Amanda have an argument. The legend on screen is, So you think im in love with continental shoemakers? This is evidently to do with Tom as we know that he works in a shoemaking factory, although his true passions is writing. However, Amanda would much rather him work in the shoemakers. This shows his envy, the fact that his father was able excape and make his dreams come true, but Tom is unable to do this. The anger of this argument is evident from the start, Before the stage is lighted, the violent voices of Tom and Amanda are heard. They interrupt eachother when speaking exremely fast paced, therefore putting more emphasis on the intensity of the argument. During their argument the lighting is mainly focused on Laura so there is a, clear pool of light on her figure, throughout the scene. Even though Laura has no active part in this argument. Williams has made ir so the light upon Laura is distinct from the others, having a peculiar pristine clarity such as ones used in old religious portraits. Williams is highlighting to us that Laura is an importat figure although she is silent throughout this dialogue. There is no music throughout this argument, I think Williams does this to put more emphasis on what is being said. Towards the end of the argument Tom has a large passage in which his anger purs out. We know it has been building up to this point, and it is evident that he is about to explode. During this passage there are no full stops, its as if Tom is reading off a list to Amanda. Tom says, Ive joined the Hogan gang Im leading a double life. Williams has presented it like this to Toms anger and envy at his mother. Tom is also overtowering her tuny figure. This signifies not only the height difference between them, but the difference in the people they are. However, although they dont realise it, they are very much alike, but this alikeness causes them to break apart from eachother and continuously pick fights with eachother. During this passage Williams also relates back to his theme of living in an illusional world. Tom says, Im leading a double life. This again relates back to the fact that each of these characters wants to escape. Throughout this passage Tom is saying things he wish could happen, things that only happen in his imagination. At the end of the passage Amanda is immediately shocked when Tom refers to her as an ugly babbling old witch. Amanda goes into shock at Toms manner of speaking to her. Williams has presented us with a significant part in the play, Toms anger has got the better of him, and he has said something he may regret. At the end of the scene Tom accidentally breaks some of Lauras glass menageries, Thnere is a tinkle of shattering glass. This is also extremely signifcant as Laura cries out as if wounded. Williams has cleverly made it so when the glass menageries are broken, it appears that a piece of Laura has been broken as well, and the family has been broken apart by it as well. Williams is also emphasizing teh fragility of Laura, she is just like her glass menageries, easily broken and fragile. Tom is evidently shocked by what he has done, he Drops awkwardly to his knees to collect the fallen glass, glancing at Laura as if he would speak but couldnt. Williams is showing that Tom knows the extent of what has just happened, he knew how important the glass menageries were to her, and therefore he now knows the effect it is going to have on her and the family as a whole. The music during the lsat section of this scene is The Glass Menagerie. This is used to give an emotional emphasis to this passage, it seems to suit this passage as we assume it to be extremely light and delicate, and very sad. Overall, scene 3s content is majorly full of hate, anger and envy. This relates back to what Williams psychiatrist said about his plays. The hate anger and envy, as well as desperation are evident in this scene through each of the characters, and the way Williams presents them, the music and the lighting, all in effect to get across his themes.
Nescafes Global Strategy
Nescafes Global Strategy About Nescafe Nestle, the largest confectionary, nutrition and Food Company in the world. Nescafe is one of its renowned brands in the business of traditional hot and cold energizing solubles like coffee and is available almost in every part of the world in different forms and variants. It was named as one of the top 100 brands of the world by Bloomberg business week (Top 100 Brands of 2008, 2008). Today, its offerings are available in 32 countries including France, China, Canada, Pakistan, India, UK, USA and others(Nescafà ©, 2010). Nescafes Global Strategy Nescafe has build a strong brand equity through the use of aggressive marketing strategies globally. Each country/regions Nescafe forms its own strategy to effectively target its audience and generate sales accordingly for the profitability and growth of the company. It is for this reason that some variants are designed and marketed to cater to the needs of that particular segment of the market. It has been noted that Nescafe as a brand is in a intermediary phase from being an exclusive utilitarian comsuption product when it used to be just an instant coffee to becoming more of a product with hedonic consumption when it started to create and sell different blends in different markets. Each variant has its own specific feature and personality to add value to the brand under the same name. The company aims at providing products to consumers wherever, whenever and however is required. Nescafe focuses on the coffee tradition and its historical value. Nescafes global brand personality can be sincere, down-to-earth, warm and honest and excitement related to friendly, youth and energy however it can be just one of the two mentioned above or a mix of both depending upon the target market and the variation. Target Market, Promotion Strategies and Media Nescafe has different target market for its different variants. In the UK, the target market is young adult consumers aged between 20-35 of middle and upper class who have lived with consumption soft drinks and energy drinks like redbull. To capture that market, Nescafe along with its advertising agency decided on building consumer trust and develop work showing lenghts that Nescafe users will go to stay away from other substitute goods. A 360 degree campaign was designed which was launched with a TVC, billboards, radio ads, posters, magazines, news paper and many other medias. In India, with its different variants, is leveraging to vast consumer base and cateting to all segments of the market. The market has been divided on the basis of geographic regions like North, South, East and West, psychographics and demographics. The strategy however has been to focus on values and low-key market penetration using 360 degree promotion campaign. The Greek market was consuming the traditional Greek Coffee which was served in a tiny cup and with a glass of cold water intended to be drunk first. Nescafe captured this opportunity to grab the market share by introducing its Nescafe Frappe in the Greek Market that change habit of the Greek coffee drinkers. It has been heavily marketed to the target audience aged between 17-30 using clever visuals to show a trendy world of partying and dancing including a stylish living for the younger generation. (Butler, 1988) With a deal with MTV to launch a style campaign for the new generation of consumers aged between 16-24 years old, Nescafe has decided to relaunch the brand with a $30 Million global campaign. Nescafe has been working on targeting its market through the use of interactive youth oriented websites Nescafe Live where consumer will exchange ideas and information regarding images and videos aimed at 16-24 years old consumers of the global market. In Australia, the marketing mix is aimed at targeting diverse market segments of all age groups. For the young adult cafà © culture segment, they offer their range of latte with a sponsoring campaigns like Nescafe Short Film Awards Win the Nescafe Latte Lounge of which teaser and TVCs were created. Also, a website was created for information regarding products, competitions and events. Marketing Communication Agencies Nescafes lead global agencies are McCann Erickson Publicis Mojo while also have MindShare as their global media creative Agency (Jain, 2007). These global agencies have either affliations with local agencies in different countries or have their own subsidaries. Thus, the affliated agencies or the subsidaries become the local agencies of their clients and work with their global partner to create a universal image, perception and equity of the brand. Like the local agency in Sweden for Nescafe is Storakers McCann which is affliated with McCann Erikson while in Pakistan its Orient McErikson. In France, it is Publicis Conseil which has affliation with Publicis Mojo. Importance of Advertising for Nescafe Advertising for Nescafe is important to create positive feeling and attitude of consumers towards the brand which will eventually lead to purchase. Advertising plays a vital part in communicating a competitive advantage and to make consumers feel that the product suits their requirements and has the same personality as theirs. Due to factors like culture and differences in attitudes and behaviors in each country/region that has its own beverage used as stimulant or energizers. Like in some regions its tree and in others its green tea or coffee. Thus, to capture the non-coffee drinking markets, it is essential to aggresively advertise the energizing and stimulating effects of coffee. The red color of the mug is used to emphasize the energy of the drink while red suits to project that state of mind. Nescafe has a very diversified base of consumers belonging to different personalities which have different cultures and tradition and coffee just might not be a part of any of it. It is through advertising that they can create value for customers. For the same reason, Nescafe with the help of local agencies creates offerings based on consumers attitudes, personalities, and behavior and the culture and tradition of that country/region while keeping a broader global brand image, conviction and positioning. If Nescafe just had a global agency responsible for creating and designing products and brands and market them to the global market at large, it would fail to effectively communicate with the customers or to create a competitive advantage in the markets due to the diversified consumer base as needs, attitudes, culture, behaviours and many other factors of consumers choice and preference differ from region to region and coutnry to country. Thus, a balance has to be maintained between the local market perspective and the global outlook as well for the success of the brand and company(Amanda, n.d.). Recommendation To be able to capture and grab the market share of different markets, Nescafe should be associated with the current agencies in order to create offerings using both global and local perspective. However, their promotional strategy should not completely be diverted towards the coffee drinkers of future and should carry out activities for the adults and old-age consumers as well. The use of 360 degree marketing campaigns is a very effective way of reaching out to the target consumers which should be carried on further. Reference: Amanda, (n.d.) education Essay -- essays research papers
Rather than emphasizing on maintaining discipline in a classroom, classroom management would be more appropriate for an effective teacher. Discipline has two significant limitations such that discipline highlights the individual rather than the classroom and secondly it connotes negative behavior (352). Whereas classroom management is broadly defined as ââ¬Å"all of those positive behaviors and decisions a teacher makes to facilitate the learning process of their studentsâ⬠also reiterating all of those ââ¬Å"activities necessary to create and maintain an orderly learning environmentâ⬠(352). The reason why creating an effective classroom management plan is essential is to create a positive and productive learning environment, be able to work and communicate with the students, ââ¬Å"reduce the incidents of misbehaviorâ⬠while maintaining student interest, motivation, and involvement. à à à à à Everyone classroom is diverse since not one person is the same. Keeping this concept in mind, it is important to understand that everyone, primarily the students, have different cultural beliefs, values and attitudes. Some students may also come from a single parent home or may have their family going through a divorce. By understanding each student and their various cultural diversities, it will help the effective teacher produce a stronger level of communication with their students and encourage a productive learning environment. It is important to acknowledge each students differences and not ignore their needs outside the academic setting. à à à à à With the focus of creating an effective classroom management plan, it is essential to define rules and implement them so they may be clearly and easily understood. While establishing rules it is important to remember that the goal is ââ¬Å"to establish and maintain an effective learning environmentâ⬠(361). While developing rules for the classroom, it is best that the list of rules be few yet clear and concise. ââ¬Å"It is also important to involve the students in the development of these rules; this not only facilitates their understanding and ownership but also cultivates their sense of power and self-esteemâ⬠(362). The effective teacher will realize that by including students into the decision making process of their own classroom management, they are encouraging a more productive learning environment. ... ...ively enthusiastic in a classroom is important to engage student motivation. This can be implemented by showing interest in the subject matter being discussed and the teacherââ¬â¢s enthusiasm should reflect onto the studentsââ¬â¢. Organization is important to be developed in the classroom so that the students may carry the organizational skills outside the classroom and through out the rest of their lives. This can be implemented by having the students organize their desks at the end of every week and having a binder/notebook of their work shown to the teacher periodically which is organized according to the rules the teacher has established. Following through the rules is also important for the children because it is necessary that they have a consistent environment. The rules may be positively reinforced but this must be consistently done. It is a teacherââ¬â¢s role to have patience and with that the students will benefit the most. Finally, rules shall be implemented w ith respect, courtesy and listening on both ends of the spectrum. By showing the student that you, the teacher, has these qualities, they will realize that these are crucial in the proper development of a well-rounded student.

politics today :: essays research papers
What is politics? Throughout history, people have participated in politics on many different levels. They may have participated through a direct democracy, in which they directly governed, or they may have participated through a representative democracy, in which they participated by electing representatives. As citizensââ¬â¢, people have participated in politics to attain the things they needed or wanted, the valued things. Participation in politics has been the way that people have a voice and change the things that directly affect their lives. Throughout the course of history, politics has been the competition of ideas; they decide who gets what, when, where and how. Politics is the means for attaining valued things. Although, valued things are different in every society, the means of securing those things has never changed. The competition for power, authority and influence will always be the backbone of politics. Applying power, authority and influence to the valued things that support the public good, will produce the quality of life a society desires. In the present day, citizens in the United States demand certain valued things such as welfare, education, safe streets and healthcare. Through politics, citizens can apply their power in many different ways to get the things they want. Power is the ability to get someone to do something they may or may not want to do. Through the use of or the application of coercion, persuasion, manipulation and negotiation, power is used to influence the system. It would seem as if valued things, such as safe streets and healthcare, would already be established in a society such as ours. Using safe streets as an example, it is hard to believe a person would not support safe streets. But the discussion about safe streets is not exactly whether we want them or not. The disagreement on this topic, and most political topics, is how much should be spent fiscally on achieving and maintaining safe streets. The question of how much money should be spent on what and where is usually decided by whomever or whatever has applied the most power, influence and authority. How active or inactive should the government be in getting valued things? Politics must be used as the means of answering this question. Politics should be used to attain the things that the society needs most and should represent all of the people equally. In America today, there is a general, underlying equality that has been offered to everyone.
Moral Truth
Moral Truth What is Moral truth? In Sam Harrisââ¬â¢ book ââ¬Å"The Moral Landscapeâ⬠, he explains his ideas on moral truth. He explains that moral truth is so complex because of personal whim, and cultural influence. He explains his ideas of moral truth through science, objective and subjective, and consensus and consciousness. With these ideas Harris is able to define moral truth to his best ability, because it is such a difficult subject to understand. In the chapter on moral truth, Harris explains moral truth with the use of science. He states in the book ââ¬Å"science can, in Principe, help us understand what we should do, and should want-and, therefore, what other people should do and want in order to live the best lives possible. ââ¬Å"In other words, He believes that like science, there are right and wrong answers to moral truth. He then explains that science should help us answer moral questions. His other idea is that science is based on our best guess of what it i s and moral truth is the same. Moral truth is also just our best guess of what is right and wrong.Harris is trying to say that moral truth, like science, can have a framework in which we believe is correct, but can always change. Harris explains in the book that the terms ââ¬Å"objectiveâ⬠and ââ¬Å"subjectiveâ⬠are very different. Objective means that a person is using to bias when they are making a statement. He uses the example of having a ringing in his ear. This is a subjective statement, however, is objective because he is not lying. From this idea of the ringing in the ear, he explains that this is a way that we can study depression. We can determine brain states with reference, to personââ¬â¢s subjective thoughts. Finally in the chapter, he explores the ideas of consensus and consciousness. He explains that scientific consensus as scientific controversy that work needs to be done. For example, ââ¬Å"moral controversy proves that there can be no such thing as m oral truth while moral consensus shows only that human beings often harbor the same biasesâ⬠this idea is basically saying that often people will think differently than others and this creates bias among people.Harris explains that truth has nothing to do with moral consensus, because often one person can be right, while a crowd is wrong. Harris then goes on to explain his ideas on consciousness. He explains that people have moral truth because they are conscious creatures. His understanding of a conscious being is that ââ¬Å"consciousness is only intelligible domain of value. â⬠All in all, Harris believes that moral truth is similar to science because it must be backed up by evidence and often consists of educated guesses. He explains that objective and subjective are very different, however; can often be used in the same ways. Finally, consensus and consciousness outline the basis of moral truth, because without them moral truth would not exist according to Harris. He b elieves that consensus means that only humans can have the same bias, and consciousness shows that only people with consciousness can have moral truth.
